This is a question which most children are asked in most cultures.
Most children have an idea of what they would like to become. Innocent mind with wild imagination and pure instincts. I recall vividly… I was 7 years old when my uncle asked myself and my 5 year old sister Dudu this question…. Dudu confidently announced without hesitation that she was going to be a teacher when she grew up. I remember questioning myself whether I wished for the same vocation….especially as she declared it with such confidence.
My uncle was pleased with my sister’s reply, let’s face it – teaching is one of the most important jobs in the world. Most if not all jobs we are doing today began with teachers.
Whilst my sister smiled confidently with her choice especially after noticing my uncle’s approval….suspense was nearly killing me and I had to reveal my dream career, ’when I grow up I will be a lawyer.’ I announced. My uncle seemed intrigued and proceeded to ask questions about what lawyers do…my little mind explained that I was going to fight for the weak. He was satisfied and told my sister and I to never give up on those dreams. It has been a long way to get to where I am today and I’m still excited to learn and grow.

Why did I think about this question?
Dudu, my beloved sister died before she was able to fulfill her dream of becoming a teacher – sleep well angel.
It is not too late to learn something new, it certainly never too late to fulfill a dream. Do you remember what you aspired to become? Do you want to pursue a different career path? Go for it and allow not your doubts hold you back.
As we battle COVID-19 and on lockdown – it’s time to reflect on your life and when you come out of this well….fulfill your dreams and do what you’ve always aspired to do. Insofar as we are alive, we have a chance to learn, repent, appreciate, achieve, love, forgive, heal etc.
Think about it – what is your next chapter? Write it all down and pursue it.
